Gynaecological Diseases

“I feel terrible whenever my period comes. I lose so much blood and the pain is so intense. I often have to apply for sick leave because of that!” Obviously some women may share the problem above. Do not be caught off guard, as menorrhagia and menstrual pain are indications of gynecological problems. Once ladies realize they have abnormal vaginal secretion or lumps on the abdomen, please consult a doctor and receive proper treatment if needed.

Four common gynecological diseases

Menorrhagia

What is menorrhagia? Normally a menstrual cycle lasts for 21 - 35 days and menses usually lasts for 5 - 7 days on average. If you find you bleed more than usual, or it lasts for more than 10 days, those may be symptoms of menorrhagia. If you have menorrhagia, please consult a doctor, who should perform a clinical examination, a pelvic ultrasound, a hysteroscopic examination or a uterine biopsy to determine the underlying cause of menorrhagia.

Menstrual pain

Menstrual pain significantly affects daily activities. The cause of menstrual pain may be related to endometriosis or adenomyoma. Doctors will perform an ultrasound examination for accurate diagnosis. If it is diagnosed as endometriosis, laparoscopic surgery is required to remove the tumor.

Generally medications can be used to relief menstrual pain.

Hard lumps

During self-examination, if you find any hard lumps near the lower abdomen, please consult a gynaecologist as soon as possible. Uterine cancer or endometriosis can be diagnosed by ultrasound examination and the gynaecologist can determine the urgency of removing the tumor surgically.

Abnormal vaginal discharge

Do you have any abnormal vaginal discharge or discharge with a foul smell? This may be the early signs of vaginitis. Vaginitis is only one of the diseases about abnormal vaginal discharge. Therefore, women should consult a gynaecological specialist if they have such problems. Diagnosis can be made by clinical examination, swabbing a sample for laboratory testing or ultrasound examination. Medications can be used as treatment in general.
