Hysteroscope
What are the indications for hysterscopic examination?
“Lately I have had irregular menses. Earlier when it was not during the menses period, I bled for no reason. Is there something wrong with my uterus?” If women have frequent menses, abnormal bleeding, or irregular menses, they may have gynaecological problems. Also, women aged 40 or more have increasing chances of cancer. Once these symptoms appear, please consult a doctor as soon as possible. Gynaecologists would perform a gynaecological clinical examination and ultrasound test. If necessary, patients may be referred to a hospital for hysterscopic examination.
Must uterine fibroids be removed?
Of course not. Generally uterine fibroids are benign. If it is located outside the uterus and is small, no surgery is required. However, if the fibroid is located inside the uterus, hysteroscopic surgery is required to remove it, as it often causes menorrhagia and prolonged menses.
Differences between hysterscopic surgery and vaginal ultrasound
Before hysterscopic surgery, the gynaecologist would first ask the patient for their history and perform a clinical examination, and then use an ultrasound machine to examine the uterus of the patient. However, an ultrasound image cannot be used to differentiate whether it is normal mucosal layer or polyps. Therefore a hysterscope can be used to confirm the diagnosis and to remove the polyps or fibroids if necessary.
Risks of hysterscope
There are no superficial wounds. The wound is located in the uterus and recovery is quick. There is not much risk of having a hysterscopy as the risks of hemorrhage and uterine rupture are extremely low.
